What Is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a gentle, hands-on therapy that works with the fascia—your body’s connective tissue system—to relieve pain, restore motion, and support healing

What Makes the John Barnes Method Different?

Unlike traditional massage or bodywork, the John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach focuses on sustained, gentle pressure and listening to your body’s natural healing cues.

Here’s what makes it special:

Gentle, long holds: We apply light pressure into areas of tension and hold it for 3–5 minutes (or longer), allowing the fascia to slowly and naturally release.

No forcing or deep pressure: We never push through resistance. Your body leads the way, and we follow.

Whole-person care: Myofascial restrictions can hold onto stress, injury, and even emotion. This work gently supports healing on physical, emotional, and energetic levels.

Natural, intuitive movement: As the body begins to release, you may notice subtle shifts, spontaneous movement, or unwinding. This is your body’s way of reorganizing and healing from within.

No oils or lotions: We work directly on the skin without sliding or gliding, allowing us to truly connect with the fascial system.

What Is Fascia, and Why Does It Matter?

Fascia is a web-like connective tissue that surrounds and supports every muscle, bone, organ, and cell in your body. Injury, stress, or poor posture can create restrictions in the fascia, leading to:

Chronic pain or tightness

Reduced mobility

Numbness or tingling

Unexplained tension patterns

By gently releasing these restrictions, we help restore balance, comfort, and natural alignment.

What Can I Expect in a Session?

You’ll remain comfortably clothed in athletic wear or stretchy, loose-fitting clothing.

The work is slow and gentle—there’s no cracking, rubbing, or aggressive pressure.

You may feel a sense of warmth, melting, or emotional release as the tissue lets go.

Each session is unique, tailored to what your body needs in that moment.

 Who Can Benefit?

This approach is ideal for those experiencing:

Chronic pain or tension

TMJ issues

Migraines or headaches

Fibromyalgia

Pelvic pain or dysfunction

Postural issues

Old injuries or surgical scars

Stress and trauma held in the body

 Gentle, Powerful Healing

The John Barnes Method of Myofascial Release supports your body’s innate ability to heal. Whether you’re dealing with long-term pain or simply seeking deeper balance, this work meets you exactly where you are—without judgment, and without force.
